When you’re
coming off of a career best run at the season finale of the PASS
series national tour at the Greenville-Pickens Speedway just a few
weeks ago, what is a young Texas racer to do to prepare for his
next and final race of the 2008 season? According to the hot-shoe
driver Trey Mitchell it’s all about seizing the opportunity and
living up to the hype.
“I had the best
race I’ve ever had behind the wheel of a late model in hands down
the toughest field of race cars from across the country that I’ve
ever raced against a few weeks ago in the PASS race at Greenville.
I’ve gotten some good publicity that let people know who Trey Mitchell
was but more importantly, I’ve gotten some much needed confidence
in myself,” noted Mitchell.
However, Mitchell
realizes that with more publicity comes the pressure to compete
for wins and top fives every time the Trey Mitchell Racing team
hits the track especially in big events. That’s why the team with
short track ace turned crew chief Freddie Query at the helm will
head to the Peachstate Speedway in Jefferson, Georgia for the 25th
running of the World Crown 300 this Saturday and Sunday November
8th and 9th with the winner taking home a $10,000 payday.
It will be Mitchell’s
final start for the 2008 season and his first at the fast Georgia
half-mile race track. Unlike many tracks he raced at this season,
Mitchell has at least laid eyes on the facility having attended
the 2007 World Crown as a spectator.
“I knew right
away last year that I wanted to run the World Crown if the opportunity
to do so was available. We came home with a solid fourth place at
Greenville and a clean race car so we decided to run it. We’ve had
a lot of publicity lately which is exactly what we needed, now we
just have to go out and show everyone that I’m not just a one hit
wonder and focus on getting my first win,” stated Mitchell.
