Pro Stock Motorcycle, session one:
Hector "the Hammer" Arana is once again tops in the two-wheel category, riding his Lucas Oil-backed Buell to a 6.965 for the provisional No. 1 spot after one qualifying session. Arana was the lone bike to dip in the sixes, and he holds a sizeable advantage over the rest of the field with Andrew Hines nearly six-hundredths back with a 7.022. Angie McBride, riding for Karl Klement this weekend, is third at 7.023.

Pro Stock, session one:
Allen Johnson heads the factory hot rods after putting a 6.657 on the boards. Jason Line finished a close second with a 6.659. Mike Edwards, who qualified No. 1 10 times in the first 18 races, surprisingly is not atop the sheets, finishing third with a 6.663. Kurt Johnson made a nice rebound after failing to qualifing, posting a 6.668 out of the box to grab the fourth spot after one session. Also of note, Tom Hammonds in his return put up a respectable 6.670 to grab the No. 5 position for now.

Funny Car, session one:
As was the case in Indy, the John Force Racing team is showing the way in Charlotte with three of the JFR cars sitting 1-2-3. Mike Neff fronts the field with a 4.122. Robert Hight continued his strong showing of late, finishing second with a 4.132. Ashley Force Hood is third at 4.136. A pair of drivers not in the Countdown to 1, Matt Hagan and Jerry Toliver, are next on the sheets with respective clockings of 4.145 and 4.148.

Top Fuel, session one:
In a surprising twist, Doug Herbert, who is running for just the second time this year, grabbed the provisional pole with a 3.852. Herbert ran in teh second pair of cars, and his run held up through all the challenges behind him, including points leader Antron Brown, who came closest to supplanting Herbert atop the sheets but came up short with a 3.860. Tony Schumacher finished third with a 3.867, and Larry Dixon ran a fourth-best 3.881. Following the completion of Top Fuel, the Pro Mods hit the track for their first qualifying session, then it's the rest of the first Top Alcohol Dragster qualifying session that was cut short earlier today. After that, it's right back into the Pros.

Pro Stock Motorcycle, session two:
Hector Arana is halfway to his third No. 1 start in the last four events and fifth of the season after his 6.965 from earlier in the day held through the second session. Arana was best of session No. 2 as well, posting another 6.96 to grab the three extra qualifying points awarded to the top runner in each qualifying session. Andrew Hines bettered his earlier run, posting a 6.980 that places him second on the sheets. Angie McBride remained third on the strength of her 7.023 earlier in the day. The red-hot Michael Phillips continued his torrid pace as of late with a 7.028 that was third-best time of the second session and fourth best of the day.

Pro Stock, session two:
Not surprisingly, Mike Edwards jumped to the front of the field with a 6.614 that is almost four-hundredths better than everyone else. Ronnie Humphrey is a surprising second with a 6.650, and Allen Johnson (6.657) and Jason Line (6.659) are third and fourth, respectively.

Funny Car, session two:
Cruz Pedregon shot to the top of the sheets with a 4.087. Robert Hight maintained the second spot when he improved to a 4.096. Ashley Force Hood clocked a 4.113 to grab the provisional third spot, and Tim Wilkerson nabbed No. 4 with a 4.119. Teammates John Force and Mike Neff are next. Both ran a 4.122; Force won the speed tie-breaker to grab the fifth spot, while Neff, the first-session leader with his 4.12, dropped to sixth.

Top Fuel, session two:
Antron Brown padded his points lead by another three points when he jumped to the top spot on the ladder with a 3.845. Tony Schumacher jumped to second with a 3.850, and first-session leader Doug Herbert dropped to third when he was unable to improve on his 3.852 earlier in the day. Brandon Bernstein was the third quickest of the final session, posting a 3.860 that places him fourth provisionally.

Saturday:
