Parts Plus USCS
Outlaw Sprint Car Racing Headlines by Pete Walton
This is the one and only Parts Plus USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour winged sprint car event scheduled during the 2009 season at Lavonia Speedway. This race will award National Championship points as well as points in the Parts Plus USCS Southern Thunder regional series standings. The Parts Plus USCS Southern Thunder regional series consists of races in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, both Carolinas and Eastern Tennessee. The special event is expected to bring top winged Outlaw sprint car drivers from at least six states to the track. The exotic fire breathing, alcohol burning, 700 horsepower open wheel cars weight just 1,300 pounds, and are pound for pound the World's most powerful short track race cars. The cars will literally fly around the track surface at speeds over 125 M.P.H. It is not uncommon to see Parts Plus USCS sprint cars popping "wheelies" or doing wheel stands because of the brute force of their engines and their huge 18-inch wide rear tires. Saturday night's Outlaw sprint car action will feature a full program of racing in the Outlaw sprint cars that includes test and tune hot laps followed by the evening's first sprint car race, the Parts Plus Power Dash that showcases the top six cars from the previous Parts Plus USCS main event in an edge-of-your-seat six-car shootout. Next up will be qualifying heat races and a Last Chance/B-Main race. The evening's grand finale will be the 30-lap Parts Plus USCS A-main event. The popular touring Georgia Mini Sprint Series will join the Parts USCS sprint cars on the action-packed racing program, creating an exciting open-wheeled winged race car double-header special event for the race fans. All of the Lavonia Speedway weekly racing divisions will join the two traveling series for a full night of family entertainment. Those divisions include the Limited Late Models, Fastrak Crate Late Models, Stock V8, Enduro, Stock Four, Beginner Four and Front Wheel Drive divisions. There will be a full program of racing action in every division. Six-time Parts Plus USCS National Champion, Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee, who currently leads the 2009 Parts Plus USCS National, Mid South and Southern Thunder point standings, heads the entry list for the Lavonia Speedway event. Gray is also among the top twenty-five drivers in the Nation in feature wins over the past 5 years with over 80 feature wins. Another top gun entry is Johnny Bridges from Cherryville, North Carolina. The 2004 USCS/AOAS series Champion was the 2008 "Thunder in the Carolinas" mini-series Champion. Bridges has recently switched to a Ford power plant for his 1350 pound car. Ford engines are rare in a Chevrolet dominated sprint car World, but, should make the Blue Oval race fans smile on Saturday night. Other notable expected entries include: Rookie sensation, Justin Carver from Drummonds, Tennessee who ranks second on the series National point standings and the 2008 Rookie of the Year, Anthony Nicholson from Bartlett, Tennessee who ranks third. Other entries include 2008 USCS Southern Thunder Rookie of the Year, Jake McLain from Indian Trail, North Carolina and veteran Brad Wickham from Forest City, North Carolina. Other North Carolina expected entries include Late Model and Sprint Car Ace driver Lance Moss from Cherryville, North Carolina plus Tim Perry from China Grove, Brandon Rekow, from Mooresville, Brian Carter from Concord and C.J. Miller from Denver. Additional entries include rookies Drake Moore from Charlotte and Eric Riggins from Kannapolis, North Carolina. Additionally two past American Sprint Car Series regional Champions, Coby Adams is expected as well. |
