In another masterful drive, Augie Grill captured the victory for the U. S. Auto Sales World Series of Speed 100 at Gresham Motorsports Park! This was his second win of the season at this beautiful facility. He won the opener back in March. It was a warm July evening with a slight drizzle in the air … hoping that this race would see the checkered, race fans had their fingers crossed as the green flew and launched the spectacular field of CRA Super Series Late Models on their way to turn one! As the top eight qualifiers were inverted on this night, the racers were determined early on. After a handful of laps, the drizzle disappeared, and the racing intensified! Grill, the second fastest qualifier, starting from seventh after the inversion, made his way to the front. Once there, he battled door-to-door with race leader Bubba Pollard for a few laps and then took over the lead on lap 34. From that point on, he was never seriously challenged … he survived some double file restarts during the event … the last being a green-white-checkered! Grill in victory lane … "It feels very good to win tonight. We didn't get the pole and I wished we had, but the win more than makes up for it”. Rounding out the top five: Bubba Pollard, Ryan Blaney, Jeff Fultz, and Jimmy Weller. T.J. Reiad, the fast qualifier on this night in the Kyle Bush Motorsports ride, was actually the second car to get the checkered, but was disqualified during post-race inspections. During the early stages of this race, as the faster qualifiers were making their move to the front, Jimmy Garmon, running around the top five, got loose in turn one, slipped up the track, and lost several positions. He eventually finished in the 13th position. In the trucks, our lady Brittany Finley maintains her point lead by picking up a fourth place finish … an off night perhaps, but still a good run for the “Alabama Belle”. Race fans, in closing I have to say, Augie Grill has got to be “the man to beat” in the prestigious 27th World Crown 300 coming up in November. He has proved that he knows the fast way around GMP. In addition to his two dominating wins this year, he is also the current track record holder … blistering the 1/2-mile asphalt oval at 16.169 seconds back in March … that’s 111.324 mph! Friends, I hope to see you all at GMP! Hey Augie … keep diggin’! - Rocky Sinyard
