JEFFERSON, GA (May 4, 2010) - The Dawsonville, GA City Council announced Monday evening that Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, GA would serve as the Official Track of the Georgia Racing Hall Of Fame and its Thunder Road Museum. The Hall - which is housed at the Dawsonville City Hall Municipal Complex - is in its seventh year of honoring Georgia's racing legends and is one of the top tourist attractions in the state. "This is a tremendous honor for Gresham Motorsports Park," said Jim Gresham. "The Georgia Racing Hall Of Fame is an amazing place where the history of our sport in the state of Georgia comes alive. The list of legends who are honored there is among the best in racing and the exhibits are flawless. To have the Georgia Racing Hall Of Fame select Gresham Motorsports Park as its Official Track is beyond anything we could have hoped for when we decided to completely renovate GMP a year ago." Gresham was part of a special group to tour the Georgia Racing Hall Of Fame on Monday prior to the Dawsonville City Council's announcement. Included in the tour group was Brian Johnson, the lead singer for AC/DC and longtime auto racing participant and supporter. "Just spending a day the Georgia Racing Hall Of Fame was a great thrill," stated Gresham. "To have Brian there was really special. AC/DC has been my favorite rock and roll band forever. To meet Brian personally and to talk cars and racing with him was incredible. He's a great guy and would fit into any racing crowd. Then to have Gresham Motorsports Park named as the Official Track of the Georgia Racing Hall Of Fame pretty much made it a perfect day." The Georgia Racing Hall of Fame (GRHOF) officially re-opened in its Dawsonville City Hall complex location in August 2007. The museum, which has been recognized by the state legislature as the official home of the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame, honors prominent members of Georgia's racing heritage. Included in that group are early NASCAR greats Red Byron, Tim, Bob and Fonty Flock, Jack Smith, Lloyd Seay, Raymond Parks, Red Voigt, Sara Christian and Rex White to name a few. Georgia's short-track history is also highlighted through the induction of great drivers like Bud Lunsford, Charlie Mincey, Gene Felton and a host of others. As the Official Track of the Georgia Racing Hall Of Fame, Gresham Motorsports Park will host a number of Hall-related events throughout the year. As part of its May 15 CARQUEST 100 race program, GMP will honor the Georgia Racing Hall Of Fame 2009 induction class. Included in that group are Bob Burcham of Rossville, Luther Carter of Acworth, Tommie Irvin of Baldwin, Ronnie Sanders of Fayetteville, Leon Sells of Villa Rica, Buck Simmons of Baldwin, Herb "Tootle" Estes of Knoxville, Tennesee and Katron Sosebee of Lilburn. The new inductees - along with current members of the Hall - will be honored in a pre-race ceremony. Additionally, there will be a Vintage Race Car Show and a Fan Autograph Session as part of the festivities. The autograph session begins at 6 p.m. with pre-race ceremonies at 7 p.m. on May 15 at GMP. The Georgia Racing Hall Of Fame is located at 415 HWY 53 East in Dawsonville, GA. The non-profit facility is free of charge to the public and is totally run by contributions and donations. The Hall's hours are Monday - Friday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and Sunday 12 noon - 4 p.m. (all times Eastern).
