Let’s Get Ready for Friday Night Drags;
Season Opens April 30

The 2010 Friday Night Drags & Show-N-Shine season will open on Friday, April 30th. This will be the first full night of drag racing and show-n-shine competition. Fifteen divisions of drag racing including the Super Pro, Pro, Street Outlaw, Sportsman, Truck Advanced, Truck, Domestic Advanced, Domestic, Pro Four, Tuner, Sport Compact, Super Bike, Dirt/Harleys, ATV and the new Radical division for all the wide open ATVs, go karts, legends and other vehicles that do not fit into any set division. Opening night will feature a full night of practice and eliminations with trophies awarded to the main event winner in each division. There will not be any points awarded towards the season championship awards.

“The first three nights allow drivers to try different things on their cars and experiment with different divisions,” said series director Ted Austad. “This should help make the competition stronger as the points season opens the first week of June.”

The Show-N-Shine will take place in the NASCAR Nationwide garage. It will feature awards for the top three entries in each of the Showroom Current; Showroom Classic; Classic Custom; Current Custom; and the new class Stock Truck. There will also be awards for the Student Choice and President’s Choice. All winners will be eligible to participate in the Labor Day Pre-Race Show on the front stretch. All participants can take part in the weekly Speedway Cruise and awards ceremony.

“We had a number of trucks last year that requested their own class for the Show-N-Shine,” said show coordinator Trey Sanders. “So we added the Stock Truck division for 2010. We also added the Student Choice award for the younger generation of car show enthusiasts. It should be a fun year for the show-n-shine participants.”

Drivers can register and have their vehicle inspected for the season on Friday, April 30. All vehicles will need to be inspected and placed into their division prior to the elimination rounds. All drivers will need to register for the new season and be given their vehicle number.

The tech area will be open at 6:00pm on Friday, April 30. The rulebook is available at www.atlantamotorspeedway.com/events/drags. Questions can be answered in the tech area on any Friday night throughout the season. Eddie Freshwater will be returning as lead tech inspector along with James Roberts.

“We like the consistency that Eddie and James brought to the tech area last year,” said Austad. “This will help our competitors understand the enforcement of the rules at Friday Night Drags.”

The 2010 schedule of events is listed below. The staff at the speedway is asking for everyone who is a fan of the Friday Night Drags and Show-N-Shine to pass along the schedule and invite family and friends to join the fun of this series at the speedway. Last year’s events saw an average of nearly 5,000 fans, 225 drag competitors and 90 show-n-shine entries.

Ticket prices will remain the same for 2010. Spectator tickets are only $7. Drag race entry is $20. Show-N-Shine entry is $20. General parking in the outside lots is free while infield spectator parking is $20 (except for motorcycles). Motorcycle parking is free on the infield and there is no entry required into the show-n-shine.
