HAMPTON, Ga.
-- Georgia legends car racer Currie Pierce drove to his first pro
legends car feature race victory Saturday at Atlanta Motor Speedway’s
quarter-mile frontstretch oval. Pierce started second in the 10-lap
feature after finishing sixth in the preliminary race and took the
lead from Will Prance around the halfway point. The 17-year-old
racer never looked back from there, driving to the victory by about
five car-lengths over Prance.
“It was just
the most beautiful race, all God’s race,” an overjoyed Pierce began.
“I was so excited that I can’t even remember what lap we took the
lead on. We’ve worked hard this winter after moving up from semi-pro,
and we finally got it done. I’m so happy for the entire team. I
have to thank God first, because without Him I wouldn’t be able
to do this. Of course I have to thank my dad, crew chief LJ Klemons
and Mr. Gabe for all working so hard and spending so much time on
the car.”
Saturday’s win
has Pierce in terrific position in the Georgia legends car winter
point races. When many drivers aren’t even racing this time of year,
Currie is in the thick of not one, but two close point battles.
He leads the Georgia Winter Series points by three markers with
four races left on the schedule. In the Georgia Winter Flurry Series,
Pierce sits second, only six points out of first, with three races
remaining.
“The points
are very close and I’m going to do my best to win both series. I
feel blessed that we have a good shot at both championships, especially
at the pro level,” adds Currie.
Pierce’s next
race is this Saturday at Lanier National Speedway, a track he’s
very experienced on. He’ll return to Atlanta Feb. 21 for Race No.
5 on the Winter Flurry schedule.
