IMCA Modifieds Featured Fridays at Green Valley

by Bill Martin

GLENCOE, Ala. -- IMCA Modified drivers in Alabama can add a second race night to their weekend schedules this season.

Green Valley Speedway at Glencoe will add the sanctioned open wheeled division to Friday programs starting March 13. Point races will continue through Aug. 28.

“The Modifieds always put on a good show,” said Dennis Harker, starting his third year as owner and promoter of the 3/8-mile clay venue. “Lynn Phillips at Talladega Short Track sold me on IMCA and we’re working together so drivers can race two nights a week under the same set of rules.”

Talladega, a Saturday night fixture for the class since 1996, is approximately 30 miles south of Glencoe. Both tracks will be part of IMCA’s ButlerBuilt Eastern Region.

Green Valley sanctioned the Modifieds from 1999-2001 and drivers who haven‘t competed there during Harker’s tenure will be impressed by the improvements made to the racing surface and to the facility as a whole.

Along with new concession stands, restrooms, tech building and scoring tower, the most visible of those improvements include a new scoreboard and scales.
