Despite
The Grumbling, Bristol Racing Action Better Than Ever
“Bristol
just ain’t the same anymore. There ain’t no action.” One
could hear those comments just about anywhere after Saturday’s NASCAR
Sprint Cup event at Bristol Motor Speedway as some fans grumbled
about a race that produced long periods of green-flag racing and
just six cautions. In
a sense, they were right – the racing at Bristol isn’t the same
anymore. In our opinion, it’s way better.

Racing's
'Help Wanted' Signs Have A Decidedly Green Tint
08/22/2011
- Here’s a memo to all those out there looking to realize their racing
dreams – you better have way more money than you know what to do with
- or you may want to reconsider your career direction. About 15 years
ago, the formation of racing ‘little leagues’ at tracks all over the
country – go kart clubs, quarter midget, Bandolero and Legends car
divisions – changed how future drivers are developed. And while the
system has created more skilled drivers than ever flooding the market
with talent, it also unknowingly changed the financial dynamics of
the sport.

Racers - Lazy And Chicken?
“Why did I take
up racing? I was too lazy to work and too chicken to steal.” Kyle
Petty’s laughable explanation as to how he got involved in stock
car racing is probably a little over the top for him. After all,
he grew up in the ‘royal family’ of NASCAR. He was born to it. For
the rest of us involved in the sport, the reasons are just as questionable.

National News: A Story For Every Watkins Glen Turn
Fast
and fickle, Watkins Glen offers up a test unlike any race track
on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule. One of two road-course
races on the calendar (Infineon Raceway’s the other), The Glen provides
a seven-turn challenge to the world’s best drivers. It’s only fitting
that there’s a storyline for every turn… Keselowski Toughs It Out…Now
What?: Navigating the Tricky Triangle of Pocono Raceway with a broken
left ankle, Brad Keselowski won his second race of the season, placing
him atop the Wild Card standings. A new – and arguably tougher –
challenge awaits Keselowski. Road course races put greater emphasis
on braking, putting possible added strain on the injured ankle.
Said Keselowski, "It will still be uncomfortable in the car this
weekend, but I’ll have to man up one more time because we don’t
have time to let injuries get in the way of making the Chase."

NASCAR
NEWS: Watkins Glen International
August
9, 2011 - A new 2011 NASCAR wrinkle placed greater emphasis
on winning, and Sunday’s race at Pocono Raceway gave a glimpse how.
The proof: Iron man Brad Keselowski’s second win of the season might
have just catapulted him into NASCAR’s playoffs. After race No.
26, the top 10 drivers will earn spots in the 12-driver Chase for
the NASCAR Sprint Cup. Spots 11 and 12 will go to those drivers
outside the top 10 with the most wins, provided they are in the
top 20. Brad Keselowski, who won his second race driving with a
broken left ankle, leads that pack, placing him in that top Wild
Card spot with five races to go before the Chase for the NASCAR
Sprint Cup field is set.

by John Close, www.closefinishes.com
- 08-02-2011 | Charlotte, NC
At the 300-mile
mark of Sunday’s Brickyard 400, you could almost hear the howl from
the Indianapolis Motor Speedway media center over the noise of the
engines on the track. The wags that cover NASCAR Sprint Cup racing
already had their columns written, most of them wailing about yet
another boring race, the lack of passing or fans in attendance,
or how lousy the free lunch had been.

Pressure
to Win at Atlanta Even Higher Than Before
Aug.
2, 2011 – Being one of the oldest tracks on the NASCAR circuit, there
is always a great amount of prestige in taming the 1.54-mile lightning-fast
Atlanta Motor Speedway. Now with how the Labor Day Weekend date falls
on the schedule, the pressure to capture the checkered flag is at
an all-time high mark in 2011. In
addition to the proximity of the Chase for the Sprint Cup cutoff,
this year’s AdvoCare 500 at AMS features a few new wrinkles into why
this year’s edition of the Labor Day classic is so crucial to the
outlook for the rest of the season.
