Saturday: 12 noon, 2, 4 and 7pm Stay after the Saturday 7pm showing for a special presentation by Jim Mitchum, author Alex Gabbard and other well-known revenue agents and moonshiners!
The
Moonshine Festival explores Dawson County's
history during the prohibition era when liquor was illegal and the Great
Depression of the 1930's when running moonshine through the foothills
of the Northeast Georgia Mountains was a way of life. Thousands of tourist flock to the birthplace of NASCAR racing to hear about storied legends, Junior Johnson, Raymond Parks, and Gober Sosebee. These men loved the thrill of being chased through the mountain ridges of Northeast Georgia. Bring the family and visit an old Moonshine still; listen to stories from both "Tripper's" and Revenuer's. These skilled drivers pioneered engineering technology coaxing the most horsepower out of the era's automotive engine of its day. That foundation in engine building is alive in every aspect of motorsport racing as we know it today. So take a look under the hood of all the cars on display in the Dawsonville Square - you're looking at history! Meet many legendary race car drivers. See Vintage Race Cars and more Authentic Moonshine-Hauling cars than you’ll ever see gathered in one place anywhere in the US! Stop by The Dawsonville Pool Room: a great restaurant and mini-museum of Bill Elliott's accomplishments, as a young man from Dawsonville, GA who climbed the ranks of NASCAR Winston Cup Series to championship and put his hometown on the map. Order the Bully Burger while you're at the Dawsonville Pool Room - a great burger that is world famous! Help out with a very worthy cause, KARE for Kids, Inc. Purchase festival souvenirs such as t-shirts, sweatshirts, refrigerator magnets and our calendar of Legendary Race Car Drivers. For more information: visit www.kareforkids.us Directions
